President’s Message

Hi Fraser Valley Woodturners

Welcome folks to another year of woodturning. Many of us got a high energy kick start at the West Coast Roundup. The Greater Vancouver Woodturning Guild did a superb job, accepting nothing but the best. Now its time to implement all those tips. I was busy chatting with potential guests that may be demonstrating at our guild. Turners like Dave Schweitzer from Lacey WA, Marco Berera from Richmond BC and, Martin Thorne of \Squamish We have a tentative schedule set up which should be in this newsletter and on our web site. We have a few gaps to fill but its starting to shape up.

The general consensus at our executive meeting was that many of us would like to learn more about hollow turning. You will notice that we are starting out this next meeting Oct 14 on some of the basics. There is more to come in the coming months.

There are prizes for those who bring there registration money at our first meeting. Its a little something from KMS. Thanks for supporting the guild. Invite a friend along and introduce them to the group.

Derek our web master has been doing a total revamp of our web site that will allow various people to update info rather relying on one person. Be sure to check it out. Its still in progress but is looking very useful. Just google fvwg and you will find it.

Meeting location is , Robert Bateman S.S. Wood Shop.
Registration at 6:30pm.
. .
Demo will be on” Hollow Turning” A variety of hollowing tools will be demonstrated. including the hollowing bar by Brian Murphy. If you have a hollowing system please bring it to show at our demo.
Presidents Challenge is a Hollow turning from the past year. We are hoping to have a gallery of different vases and hollow forms to show from various members so bring some if you have some.

We would also like people to bring some serious wood for the raffle. Lets make it an event we all want to buy tickets for..

Many Thanks
