President’s Message – May 2012

April

If you missed  April’s general meeting, you missed another good one. Thanks to Lance for arranging to have  Bill turning a pen, and Jay for showing how to carve a three legged foot on a green bowl. Great job guys.

Doug Neufeld

Our main Demo was Doug Neufeld ( Neufeld Brothers Aggazzi ) demonstrating how to get the best piece of wood for turning from a tree, stump, etc.. He did a really great job of explaining, and demonstrating on the board what he was talking about. He also did a great job of answering questions. Thanks again Doug.

Eric Lofstrom

Please plan on taking in the big event of the year for our club. Gloria has arranged to have Eric Lofstrom from the USA come in for May. Highly talented top level demonstrator with an excellent teaching skills ability. Check our web page for details.

He will be our main demo for our  Thursday May 10th general meeting, So plan on attending.

Also the hands on class Friday May 11th has only one position left. Be quick to get to Gloria if you want that last spot.

The Saturday May 12th demo at Bow River will be fantastic. ( last time Eric was here he had over 50 people take in his demo ). Bring your $35.00 and sign up with Gloria.  Best deal around, lunch included. This has been offered  to GVWG members as well so sign up early. You can also sign up by contacting Bow River. ( they take Visa / MasterCard ). Projector screen and cameras will be set up for maximum viewing.

Wood for wood raffle will be supplied by Ed Pretty, Mark Revell, Lance

Rossington, Bob Scarrow and Guthrie Schweers, as well as our sponsors,

Bow River, Reimer Wood, Nuefeld Brothers, P and D Industries, Targo

wood. So buy those raffle tickets, as our wood selection has been

really good.

Don’t forget to get free raffle ticket for the door prize. Always a

nice give away.

Bring in something you have just finished working on for the instant gallery as we all like to see what others have been working on. A nice give away here too.

We will be adjourning the meeting prior to the wood raffle for socializing time so hang around and get into some of the conversations. ( time permitting )

June 7th

Next meeting will be June 7th, the first Thursday of June, not the second as usual as school will be closed. That will be a hands on night making pens, Bottle stoppers, and you never know what else. That also will be our last meeting until September.

Presidents challenge for June is Turnings with no sanding permitted. How good is your tool sharpening and tool control?!

Also this will be our last time for members to sell wood, and wood related items at our final sales table until we return in Sept.

Looking forward to another fun filled packed night.

See you all Thursday night,

Gary
