Dale Larson – Demonstration and Workshop

Dale Larson has been turning wood for over 30 years and he is coming to the Fraser Valley Woodturners Guild for 2 workshop/class days on Thursday, April 7th and Friday, April 8th, and a demonstration day on Saturday, April 9th, 2016.

imageLocated in Gresham, Oregon, Dale primarily turns bowls from local hardwoods such as Pacific Madrone and Big Leaf Maple. His work is both functional and beautiful and much admired by collectors and wood workers alike. His bowls can be found in private collections all over the world.

Dale has demonstrated his bowl and sphere turning at four American Association of Woodturners (AAW) Symposiums in the USA and the Ripon Symposium in England, at regional symposiums: Rocky Mountain, Vancouver BC, Utah, Tennessee, Georgia and at numerous local chapters. I have taught at the John C Campbell Folk School three times. He also publishes articles in several wood working and wood turning journals including The American Woodturner, World of Wood, Woodworker West and Woodturning Design.

Dale is a founding member of the Portland area Cascade Woodturners and has been an active member of the AAW for over 20 years.

Thursday April 7th, 2016 9:00-15:30 is a workshop.
Topic: Turn a natural edged bowl from wet wood – this will involve starting with a natural log which will be chain-sawed into individual pieces for each participant. Cost $140.-

Friday April 8th, 2016 9:00-15:30 is a workshop.
Topic: Turn a two part hollowed sphere with surface features. Cost $140.-

Saturday April 9th, 2016 9:00-16:00 is the Demonstration Day.
Topics: The day starts with half hour of slides on how to select and cut wood from the tree for bowls. Then… Explain how to dry blanks to prevent cracking,
Rough turn a wet bowl blank, Turn, sand and finish a dry wood bowl.
After lunch: Demo turning a sphere and Turn an oval bowl. Cost is $40.-

All days will be held at Bow River Hardwoods (directions) in Chilliwack.
