April 11th Guild Meeting at Robert Bateman Secondary

– as usual on the second Thursday of the month –

(Note: This months guild meeting is open to all FVWG members in good standing. New and lapsed members are welcome to join at the meeting. Membership for the balance of the season is half price: $20.-)

7:10 Feature Demo:  Binh Pho – world class tuner and demonstrator.

Binh Pho will present a slide show overviewing design, some of his pieces (including some glass work at the Riley Galleries) and then demo some thin wall turning techniques.

Originally from Vietnam, Binh Pho resides in Maple Park, Illinois, a suburb of Chicago.

“My work primarily reflects the Far East culture and my Journey to the West. I love to bring the beauty of nature and hand-creation techniques together to create character and soul in a piece.” [Binh Pho]

9:00 Coffee, Tea and Snacks at the break. And buy wood raffle tickets. Goodies supplied this month by Al Byron, Adam Christiaanse, Gary Cormier, Wayne Cunningham, and Allan Cusworth. Don will have some Magazines and DVD’s for rental from the club Library.

And the Problem Corner” Advice from the veterans. Bring something you are working on or something that you want comment on form & design. Bring in problem pieces, unknown species, wood pieces that you don’t know what to do with.

9:15 Presidents Challenge is make a 6″ high bowl, made from 1″ and under boards, you choose on how to glue them up.

9:30 Members Gallery: Commentary. Bring completed work you want to show, tell how, take questions, and discuss.

9:30 There will be no wood raffle this month to leave more time for Binh Pho’s demo. Wood or Tool Raffle donations: Bring wood blanks or a roughed out bowl blank. Bring something you would use yourself. This month Bill Olsen, Ross Paterson, Beverley Pears, Bill Peetoom and Roger Pitts will each be bringing something good!
