Elwood (Eldy) Gandy Remembered

From Harbour Spiel – August 2013.

Elwood (Eldy) Gandy – OCT. 6, 1930 — JULY 7, 2013

Eldy Gandy

Eldy was born in Brock, Saskatchewan in 1930.
His parents operated Gandy’s Hardware until they moved to Vancouver in 1945 where his family opened another hardware store in 1946 on 4th Avenue.
Eldy was the second child with one older brother, predeceased Leland (Lee) Gandy.

Eldy and wife Marge (predeceased) loved living on the Sunshine Coast since the late 1950s. Eldy leaves behind his pal, Kylee (his favourite little dog), son Ross
(Gina) and daughter Adele (Jim) and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his son Lyle.

Eldy was a carpenter. In the 1970s, he retired as owner/operator of Suburban Millwork in Burnaby and moved to Garden Bay where he had a private dock and operated Sunset Marine Ways for friends in the Harbour. Eldy spent many days fishing and trolling around Pender Harbour with many memories in the Gulf Islands, Egmont and the Harmony Islands.

Eldy always had a project on the go and was never one to sit around.
He especially loved woodcarving and spending time in his shop. His bowls were a labour of love and will continue to be in use for many years to come. He also made a variety of pens. [Eldy was a Fraser Valley Woodturners Guild member. Ed.]

Eldy spent his last week in the Harbour reconnecting with friends and playing his last hole of golf before his strong faith carried him to his new home in heaven. He was a member of the P. H. Community Church.

Eldy’s smile, positive outlook and words of encouragement will be missed by all his family and friends. A service was held at the Anglican Church 13625 Sunshine Coast Hwy. (beside PHSS) on Aug. 24 at 2:30 pm. A reception followed at the P. H. Golf Club.
