A Note From Bud Mercer:
Many of us might remember Eric Munshaw who was a long time wood turner in the Fraser Valley. Eric sadly passed away earlier this year. Eric left behind a large volume of wood that sadly he did not have time to turn. A couple of weeks back I was contacted by Eric’s wife, Edna Hobbs which resulted in my visit to their home. They have in excess of 100 pieces of what appears to be figured maple still in short cut logs with its bark still attached. Some of the wood pieces have begun to “check”, others have not. Most of the wood pieces are in excess of 12 inches in diameter. There is also large pieces of “monkey puzzle” woods plus other varieties which I could not identify. Edna has asked for assistance in removing the wood from their property, hopefully to like minded wood turners. The cost would be minimal for the good pieces and likely free for others. Her priority is the removal of the wood, not in the revenue it might generate.
We have planned an “open house” for wood turners from our guild on Saturday, the 28th of July from 8:30 AM to 2:00 PM at their property. The wood is conveniently stored at the front of their driveway near the main road. Very simple access for loading.
Their address is: 4118 Slesse Road, Chilliwack BC. Slesse Rd runs north off of Chilliwack Lake Road. The best way is to either come straight down Vedder Road from the highway to the Vedder River and turn left (east) on Chilliwack Lake Road just before you cross the river. Alternatively, come straight east on Keith Wilson Road and turn right (south) on Vedder Road and then left (east) on Chilliwack Lake Road the same as the above. Once you are on Chilliwack Lake Road continue east for 9 kms. Slesse Road is a left hand turn (north) off this main road. Edna and Eric’s home is less than 1 km up the road on the right side.
Again, 8:30 AM to 2:00 PM on Saturday the 28th of July. My cell number is 604 316 6445. Please call me if you have any questions. See you there!
Thanks
