A Note from Ken Davidson:
I just received this photo from the new owner of this large well spalted Chilean Pine bowl.
The client was really appreciative of the bowl, so much so she encouraged me to go on Instagram to view her posts . Heck, I just mastered putting photos on FB.
Start to finish this took over two years, one for spalting, then rough turning and drying for a year. Finishing can be a challenge as 95% is end grain work. The uniqueness of this wood (spalt is a must) makes them quite attractive and are often sold off the lathe via FB. Lots of Tung oil sanding and then finished with Lee Valley Blue Ribbon paste wax.
Cheers Ken
Nice post, Ken. Thx [Ed.]
