We reside in Kamloops and have just cut down our 40-year-old lilac tree and is definitely not shrub variety, the wood of which is extremely hard and heavy (had to sharpen the old saw a number of times). I have some very sizeable pieces for sale to interested woodworkers who might treasure this species. The grains and heartwood have a wonderful pattern and there is no rotting. I’ve seen various items made from lilac wood that are very beautiful.
If there is interest out there amongst your craftspersons for this particular wood, be it for turning, carving, or making into lumber or laminate, please have them email me. I can take some photos of the cuts depicting patterns and give the dimensions (tree grew to about 40′ in it’s 40 years of life).
