March
If you missed March’s general meeting, you missed a good one.
Thanks to Lance for having Ted and Mike do the Chips Fly segment. We did say you never know what’s happening during this part and once again we were surprised. Thanks to Mike for showing his Carving setup and techniques. Thanks to Ted for showing us his home made drill lathe. Variable speed and all.
Our main demo was Allan Cusworth making a wedding goblet with captive rings. He showed his talent when one ring broke, he called that a divorcees goblet and managed to still get a second captive ring to complete the demo. Nicely done Allan. Thank you.
Road Trip – Al Stirt
March 10th a small FVWG group headed down to Anacortes to see Al Stirt, hosted by the NW Washington Woodturners. It was a great road trip. Cost of $40.00 included seeing Al Stirt do multiple demos plus snacks and a great lunch. That was an excellent deal. When the club plans these events the membership should try to take them in. Once you do you will not want to miss them. We car pooled, shopped in the USA, brought lots of stuff back. We just had a fun time.
May
Please plan on taking in the big event of the year for our club. Gloria has arranged to have Eric Lofstrom from the USA come in for May. Highly talented top level demonstrator with an excellent teaching skills ability. Check our web page for details.
Eric will be our main demo for our Thursday May 10th general meeting.
Eric’s hands on class Friday May 11th has only one position left. I think. If you have signed up bring your $125.00 this Thursday night.
The Saturday May 12th demo at Bow River will be fantastic. Last time Eric was here he had over 50 people take in his demo. This is our main event of the year, lunch is included. Bow River says 50 to 60 Max capacity seating. Bring your $35.00 this Thursday and sign up with Gloria. Or you can sign up by contacting Bow River. (They take Visa/MasterCard)
If our club wishes to continue to bring in outside top quality turners, we need our members to go to those events. We will be offering this to GVWG members as well so sign up early.
April Monthly Meeting
Next, our main demonstrator for Thursday April 12th is Doug Neufeld from Neufeld Brothers in Aggazzi, B.C. He will be talking about getting the best piece of wood for turning out of a tree, stump, root, etc. Time permitting he will also discuss using a chainsaw.
Goodies supplied this month by Al Byron, Adam Christiaanse, Gary Cormier, Wayne Cunningham, and Alan Cusworth.
This months wood raffle. Bill Olsen, Ross Paterson, Beverley Pears, Bill Peetoom and Roger Pitts will each be bringing something good! Bring wood blanks or roughed out bowl blanks. Bring something you would use yourself.
Buy raffle tickets, as there is also very nice wood donated by Bow River, Neufeld Brothers, Reimer Hardwood, Targo Wood, P&D Taylor Industries.
The President’s Challenge is multiple captive ring pieces. There will be a nice give away here.
Bring in something you have just finished working on for the Instant Gallery as we all like to see what others have been working on. A nice give away here too.
We will be adjourning the meeting (as long as we are all cleaned up, chairs back etc.) prior to the wood raffle for socializing time, so hang around and get into some of the conversations.
Don’t forget to get a free raffle ticket for the door prize, great hand out.
See you all Thursday,
Gary
