Skew Chisel Basics – Video with Richard Raffin

When: June 12, 2025 @ 7pm
Where: All Saints Anglican Church and Zoom
One comment that comes up time and time again, is “I’ve got this skew, how do I use the darned thing?”. There is also a fair amount of trepidation on the safe use of a skew. We’ll be showing a 30 minute video by Richard Raffin on “skew chisel basics”.
Richard says “Skew chisels are by far the best tools for spindle turning (when the wood grain lies parallel to the lathe axis). This video covers the basic skew chisel techniques of peeling, planing and shearing, cutting vee grooves, and turning beads. You see the cuts from both above and the side. You also see why skews catch and why shearing is better than scraping.”
