I grew up in a small lumber town in Northern California near the Oregon border. As I recall, my first toys were a wood rattle and a chainsaw.  My entertainment was fishing and trying to run across logs in the local sawmill log pond without getting wet.  I went off to university and studied  wood science and technology.  My entire career has focused on how to take a tree apart and turn it into new products.   

While most of my schoolmates tried to grow trees and keep them away from bugs, I looked at trees and saw 2×4’s, toothpicks and paper.  I have not progressed much since then as now I look at a tree and try to determine how many and what kind of bowls I can make!

The demo I will give will be basically the same; some tricks on how to turn a chunk of cherry into a live edge bowl without losing fingers or bark.
