Wanted: Figured Maple BudwoodIf you know the location of the stump of a Bigleaf maple that produced highly figured wood, please let me know. Most Bigleaf maple stumps produce new shoots capable of growing into trees again with the same likelyhood of growing figured wood – it’s still the same tree. I want to collect some branch tips when the time is right – probably July or August – and graft the buds on rootstocks I have available. We have room in back to establish promising figured clones for evaluation and to use as budwood stock plants for others who want to grow them. I will be happy to share grafted Bigleaf maples with anyone who has a place to plant them. This is something I want to do for future woodturners and woodworkers. Thank you for your help.
