Murray Sluys has put together a great video of the Guild’s most recent field trip to Vern Leibrant‘s woodshop.
“On January 25th, about 15 guild members went to visit Vernon in Everson, Washington. He is in his 80s. He turned a bowl for us as is shown on the video. Someone asked him a bowl design question and his answer is the video title ” I Just Turn Bowls”” – Murray.
Vernon turns BIG bowls using home crafted tools and unique methods. He turns all of his bowls wet, does not re-turn them and has minimal warping. It took Vernon 30 minutes to turn this bowl, but he said normally it would be completed in 15 – 20 minutes. Must have been all the questions by interested Guild members.
A visit to Vernon’s shop is always a treat.
